About

Top Business Awards US recognizes one winning business per city, per business type, each year. This page explains why the register exists, how it was built, and what it does and does not claim.

Why it exists

Top Business Awards US exists because most "best local business" lists are advertising with a badge on top: a directory sells placement, or a marketing agency hands its own clients a graphic, and the visitor has no way to tell the difference between a researched recommendation and a paid one. Top Business Awards US was built to be checkable instead of trusted on faith.

Every winner page publishes the reason for the selection and the category methodology that produced it.

What "one winner" means, and why it is one

Top Business Awards US names exactly one winner per city, per business type, per year. That constraint is deliberate.

A list of ten "top" plumbers in a city is a directory; a single named winner is a claim that has to be defended, because there is only one and a visitor can ask why that business and not another. The methodology exists to answer that question in public, on the award page itself, rather than leaving "best" as an unexplained label.

How a winner is selected

Top Business Awards US selects each winner through four published stages: building the full candidate set from licensing and permit records, screening candidates against active licensing and insurance requirements, reading public service and complaint history for recurring patterns, and publishing one winner with the reasoning stated on its award page.

The full methodology, including what disqualifies a candidate at each stage, is published at methodology rather than kept internal.

Independence and funding

Top Business Awards US charges no entry fee, no submission fee, and no membership fee to any business under consideration. A business cannot pay to be selected, pay to be considered, or pay to be removed from consideration.

Nothing on an award page is sold, and no winner has provided anything of value in exchange for its selection. Where a commercial relationship of any kind exists with a candidate, Top Business Awards US excludes that candidate from consideration for the affected category.

The seal

Top Business Awards US generates a numbered seal for every winner, marking the year, city, and category it earned.

What Top Business Awards US is not

Top Business Awards US is independent editorial opinion informed by public records. It is not a government agency, a licensing board, or a certification body, and it is not affiliated with any state contractor licensing board, the Better Business Bureau, or any other organization whose public records the methodology reads as inputs.

An award is not a licence, not a guarantee of workmanship, and not a substitute for confirming a business's current licence and insurance directly before hiring.

The 2026 register

2026 is Top Business Awards US's inaugural edition. Top Business Awards US intends to rebuild the register annually, publishing a new edition under its own year rather than rolling prior winners forward, so that an award always states the specific year it was earned.

Categories are added as evidence-backed methodology is written for them, not before.

Corrections and withdrawal

If a published fact is wrong, or a winner's circumstances change materially after publication, Top Business Awards US will correct or withdraw the entry.
